Friendship is a bond which ties two souls together. Friendship Day is celebrated across the world to rejoice the wonderful relationship that we all share at some point of time in life called FRIENDS. A day dedicated to the bond of friendship and companionship.
The first week of August is usually marked as Friendship’s Day but for Tanvi, the day unfolded in ways she never imagined.
Tanvi, a sweet little girl studying in 4th Grade was very eager to go to school for it was a day to have an excuse to celebrate her friendship with her classmates. She was looking forward to tying all the friendship bands she got for her friends. Tanvi reached school, and all the students celebrated Friendship Day by tying bands in each other’s hand.
Tanvi was very excited to have lots of bands on her hand. But an announcement by the Principal was made stating that all should get rid of it for maintaining discipline. All the students started cutting bands from their hands in a hurry. Tanvi had all her bands in her right hand, so she requested one of her friend to cut the bands from her hands. Her friend was cutting the bands in a rush when the scissors caused an injury to Tanvi’s right eye.
The class teacher noticed it and called Tanvi’s parents who rushed her to Advanced Eye Hospital and Institute (AEHI) located at Sanpada, Navi Mumbai.
Tanvi’s eyes were checked immediately to know the harm caused in the right eye. After her preliminary check-up she was referred to Dr. Rajesh Mishra, Glaucoma and Cataract specialist. Dr. Rajesh Mishra examined Tanvi’s eye and counselled her parents that there is mild congestion and abrasion (scratch) in the cornea and diagnosed it as corneal abrasion.
She didn’t have any issues with her vision. The scratch to the eye was mild and could be taken care with medicines. Tanvi’s parents were quite relieved on hearing this as they were worried that Tanvi may need an eye operation.
Dr. Rajesh Mishra advised few eyedrops for her right eye and asked to follow up after 3 days and a week. The eye drops that were administered were to take care of the inflammation (swelling) and prevent any bacterial, viral and fungal infections.
After 3 days Tanvi came for her follow up visit with her parents. Dr. Rajesh Mishra checked her right eye which seemed to have started healing well. She was advised to still continue with her eye drops for a week to see progress and prevent eye complications.
2 weeks later today, Tanvi’s eyes are fine and she is back to school with full enthusiasm. Her parents were very happy to see their daughter pain-free and happy. They were grateful to Dr. Rajesh Mishra for helping out their daughter.
