Injury to Eye from Incence Stick treated successfully at AEHI

Incence Sticks (Agarbatti) are used by people for many social and religious occasions. Here we present a case of little Swaraj got his right eye injured from incence sticks.

Master Swaraj 2 years old was brought by his mother and neighbours at Advanced Eye Hospital and Institute (AEHI), located at Sanpada, Navi Mumbai. Master Swaraj was playing in his home with some other kids. While playing he saw lighted incence stick on the ground and started playing with it. While playing he got his right eye injured from incence stick and started crying.

His mother and neighbours immediately rushed him to AEHI. As they reached AEHI, he was immediately checked by the optometrist and was sent to Dr. Vandana Jain, Cataract and Cornea Specialist at AEHI. Dr. Vandana Jain examined his eyes and found a 1 cm stick in his eyes. On further examination, she found an abrasion and mild burn in the cornea of his right eye, to his luck the burning stick has not injured his lens. Dr. Vandana Jain very smoothly and slowly removed the stick and cleaned the eye with the help of cotton buds. Than Dr. Vandana Jain said Swaraj’s mother, that his vision is normal, only Swaraj will be given antibiotic ointment and few antibiotic eye drops for his right eye for relieving pain and early healing of his eye.

After 3 days swaraj’s mother brought him for his follow up. Dr. Vandana Jain examined his eyes and noted that the abrasion is healing and his vision is normal. Swaraj’s mother was thankful to Dr. Vandana Jain and the AEHI staffs for the co-cooperativeness and emergency in handling the case and saving his son’s vision.
