TMJ, World's Largest Walk Against Blindness (2019)

Navi Mumbai, 12th January 2019: Tamaso Ma JyotirGamaya (TMJ) once more actuated a strong reaction from Navi Mumbaikars, as about 15,000 individuals required promise with an end goal to make it a visually impaired free city. One Vision Health and Research Foundation sorted out this walkathon on twelfth January 2019 at CIDCO Exhibition Center in Vashi , Navi Mumbai. This yearly occasion was driven by RJ Archana Pania of Radio City who kept members connected all through the program. The inspired group strolled from CIDCO Exhibition Center, Opp. Madhya Pradesh Bhavan, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. Through the stroll, there were children and grown-ups, alike yelling trademarks and conceding to the reason for battling visual impairment and advancing eye gift.

The chief guest for the event were– Dr. Nitin Kadam(Director, MGM Group of Hospital) and special guest Miss Navi mumbai who urged people to pledge their eyes. All creative efforts were highly appreciated by Mr. Sunil Pal (comedian).  

This year, TMJ was loaded with several exciting contests and amazing performing art forms. Several enthusiastic students from various schools and colleges displayed their talent through conceptual dance performances and represented the beautiful states of our country through their costumes.

Cataract and refractive error are the two main reasons, which amounts to more than 80% causing blindness across all India i.e. 1.2 crores. Amongst many, there is one popular myth that people have is “Cataract needs to be removed only when it is ripe”. Hence, to eradicate blindness from the society, awareness about eye care needs to spread like fire.

The social organizations and NGOs supported and joined the event included Fitterfly, Humanity First Foundation, Evolve Business School, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Kutch Yuvak Sangh, Leo Club, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Rotaract Club, Anti-Corruption Intelligence Committee, NGOs Awaaz Foundation, Tarun Mitra Mandal, Agarwal Samaj, Lohana Samaj, Kannada Samaj, Jain Samaj, Muslim Samaj, Mangalam Foundation, MGM Hospital Group, MITR Hospital and Yerala Medical Trust and many more.

Bharati Vidyapeeth Nursing College, Bharti Vidyapeeth Architect College, Bharti Vidyapeeth Engineering College, Bharti Vidyapeeth Pharmacy College, CKT College, ITM College of Optometry, K L E College, NMIMS University, PILLAI College, Yerla Medical College of Management, Evolve Business School, F G Naik, R F Naik, Vijeta School, Ryan International School, Advanced College of Optometry are just a few of many eminent Schools, Colleges that have extended their support for this cause.

Amongst the organisations that passionately joined the walkathon were Anti-Corruption Intelligence Committee, Royal Enfield and Everest Cycle Company.

Emphasizing the need for such awareness walkathon, Dr. Vandana Jain, Director, Cornea and LASIK Surgeon, Advanced Eye Hospital & Institute and Trustee of One Vision Health & Research Foundation said, “There is an immense awareness gap to be bridged when it comes to health of our eyes. As a leading eye healthcare provider, we hope to reduce this gap in Navi Mumbai. And events such as TMJ help promote awareness about blindness and eye donation in the healthiest way i.e. Walk along with entertainment”.
